Why is email done this way?

The purpose of the email system is to deliver an email from a sender to one or more recipients.

The email can be seen as a message or data. It can contain text, images, video, or other files.

Email is typically sent via SMTP or Simple Mail Transfer Protocol.

There have been enhancements to the protocol, such as to add security features, but the objectives and basic functionality remain.
