Gloria-Jane, Julia, George, Susanna, Walter, Zadok,

Gloria-Jane, your name is used first because it is your shirt that motivated this email. I want to share with you God’s law and His grace. I want all of you to see how we can easily do things, as I have often, and find out later that we were naive, misinformed, or simply wrong. But again remember grace.

Perhaps you got the shirt as a gift, or you saw the phrase, “Believe Out Loud”, and it seemed to make sense. The phrase makes great sense, but the organization behind it is foul as can be.

There are two points of history that you should know. I will make this a simplified overview.

The Lord set the rainbow as the symbol that He would not destroy the world with a flood again (Gen 9). It is a sign of peace. Many years ago the rainbow became a political symbol about race relations, and often used as pressure and not for peace. More recently the same idea of the rainbow has been used by the homosexual community as a symbol for diversity, and again as political pressure.

The Lord set man and woman together as one flesh starting in Genesis 2:24. Marriage is defined by the Lord. Many years ago in the U.S. some did not like the fact that white and black people were marring each other, so some states put in laws to regulate marriage. Over time this became a unified nationwide set of laws. Advantages were provided, such as with taxes, to make the state controlled marriage more attractive. Over time the definition of marriage became a state issue, rather than what the Lord defined. The homosexual community wanted to obtain the same rights and recognition of their relationships as the now state defined marriage. This year the US Supreme Court gave it to them.

In both cases you see good things, the rainbow and marriage, defined by the Lord and usurped by man. This is consistent with 2 Corinthians 11:14 “And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.”

Your rainbow colored shirt and the message of “Believe Out Loud” are good and right as their own. However, they have both been hijacked by those who want the institutional church, the state, and the overall tenor of society to recognize what the Lord calls an abomination (Lev 18:22) as a good and acceptable thing.

We must be careful of this hijacking. A great example of this is when Moses setup the bronze snake (Numbers 21:9) and Hezekiah destroyed it (2 Kings 18:4) because it became an idol for the people. The rainbow and the simple idea of belief has been hijacked. Please don’t let it be an idol or temptation in your life, and love others enough, consistent with Romans 14, not to put a stumbling block before them.

A final thought. Homosexuality is an abomination. The Lord is clear in 1 Corinthians 6 “9Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,… will inherit the kingdom of God.” However, it is not the unforgivable sin as the following verse states: “And such were some of you.” The simple idea of love the sinner and hate the sin is very applicable here. But love the sinner and do not promote his sin.

Gloria-Jane, I love you. You look good in your shirt, but your shirt has the wrong message.

May the Lord bless all of you!
