Docket No. CS 230100309 - Case 1844859

Thank you for your time, Your Honor;

If you will allow me, I would like to tell you a little bit about our financial story.

For almost 2 decades, John has been developing the software that is his priority to this day. Paying rent and buying groceries were not John’s first priority. If there was not enough money for rent and food, he expected that someone else would pay it for us. In the fall of 2011, John began using the money that our 19-year-old son began to earn from working regularly at the Amazon Fulfillment Center to pay monthly for computers and such.

On July 12, 2012, I sent the children off with a friend, as John had asked me to do. He commented earlier in the week as he made the suggestion that perhaps they could stay with our friends for “a couple of weeks”, to “put a roof over their heads and food in their stomachs.” But instead of leaving our children with friends, I had reached out for help.

With the immediate support of family and friends, I took responsibility for the children. That afternoon I joined Dad who came earlier in the week at my request from NC. He had rented a moving truck to help me load the children’s and my things. I left all things electronic for John.

On the evening of July 12, 2012, the children and I stayed together. On July 16, 2012, we unloaded our things into a rental home. My 17-year-old daughter and I began immediately to look for work, and in short order we were both employed full-time.

The children and I do live very economically. Our needs are met, we cook at home in our own kitchen, and we enjoy infrequent inexpensive outings. We also went on an adventure in the summer of 2021, using a portion of our stimulus money.

I would like to thank the Court for intervening on behalf of these children that John has fathered. It is difficult when there are lengthy times of non- or partial payments. Drawing from child support I saved for a rainy day only lasts so long.

If the Court determines to hear other subjects beyond the question of monetary Child Support, I am ready to respond to the other subjects that John has shared.

Thank you again for your time,

Dorothy-Jane
